By Lauren Schwab Eyre

If you’re looking for a fresh sound with all the throw-back feels, search no more. With her captivating vocals and a unique blend of sounds throughout five tracks, Megan Knight brings listeners her highly anticipated EP, My Drama. Each song will take you away to a place, getting lost in the music. The relatable lyrics take the listener through each stage of grief after a relationship ends – denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance. So grab a glass of dark wine and let each song take you away…

My Drama

The song is a unique mix of 80’s beats and soft rock. Megan’s mature vocals bring a sense of empowerment to the lyrics. “We all have demons and trauma in our lives. ‘My Drama’ is a song about finding the one person that can deal with all of that; the absolute depth of your soul inside and out,” shares Megan. Hard Way To Go”

Hop in the car and crank this song up on an open highway. Megan’s vocals really shine through as she sings along to the soft rock beat with accents of the electric guitar whaling. The song captures the feeling of striking out on your own with an uncertain future, paving your path without a clear map to follow.

“Now I don’t know what to do with myself because I’m barely getting by and I’m scared for my health. And I’ve always been a stubborn kind and I say I’ll be just fine. It’s a hard way to go, it’s a hard way to go.”

– Megan Knight

Escaping from the feeling of heartbreak can be difficult to do. Megan sings in a soulful voice of wanting to numb the pain. The music slows down in this third track, but doesn’t captivate any less. All the feels rush through every lyric and touch of the piano key.

“Just want to run and hide from all of the pain inside. Nobody else to blame, numb from the novocaine.”

– Megan Knight

“Easy To Forget”

Turning it back up a notch, you can stand up and sway with your wine glass in hand. “Easy To Forget” brings a sense of empowerment in moving on. Singing of a time when she felt lost, her powerful vocals give a don’t-mess-with-me vibe because she was trapped, but is finding freedom from the war inside her mind.

“Felt like I was lost in a lonesome maze. Fighting anything and everything that got in my way.”

– Megan Knight

“Take It To The Grave”

When you come to terms with a love being one-sided, there are some words you take to the grave. Megan sings of things being better left unsaid, with a broken heart she will go on living life. They will never know what she really wanted to say as Megan keeps it to herself. The piano melody and heartfelt vocals will make you feel the haunting she encounters in choosing to stay silent.

“Felt I hit the lottery, everything inside of me, burning desire set me on fire. But it’s only one-sided…”

– Megan Knight

As I listened to Megan’s My Drama EP all the way through, it touched every feeling to the core. In addition to her jaw-dropping vocals, the lyrics are thoughtfully crafted and paired to take the listener on a journey from heartbreak through all the stages of grief. I can’t wait to see where this release takes Megan in her career as listeners experience the work of art that is this collection of songs.
