To Ron White, this may be success, or at least getting paid to make people laugh telling them about it. Marie Forleo inspired me to think about how I define success. It can be easy to compare ourselves and accomplishments or lack of to others and society’s idea of what being successful means. When we think of success in the U.S. we often think of beauty, love, fame and fortune.

Being able to be happy with who you are, what you do and where you’re at in life can be a rare and beautiful thing. So what makes you happy? Marie says in her video, “Would you feel accomplished if you just got up and put on some underwear? I certainly do.”
I feel success when others read what I write and trust in what I say. I feel success raising animals from birth and giving them the best life I can. I feel success telling others about how my dad started our farm with a dream and made it a reality. I feel success knowing my family feeds people around the world.
I feel success having a platform to travel and advocate for agriculture. I feel success having money, healthy food, a relationship, best friend, cats who love me and God who makes it all possible. Traveling the world, living simply and doing it for God is my success.
I do love and appreciate a day to sleep in and stay in my pjs eating, but when I go out into nature and the world, I know there is more I must live for and it’s my responsibility to leave my own mark in the world. What mark do you want to leave?
Listen to Sylvester Stallone’s rags to riches story and be inspired his commitment to leave his mark in the world as an actor. He didn’t give up on his dream and he didn’t let money determine his definition of success.
Never allow others to take away your dream and achieving the success you want in life. You have one life. To Sylvester, starring as Rocky and getting his dog back was success. To my dad, making a business to raising pigs and sustain his family and theirs is his definition of success. To Ron it may be making others laugh with his stories. Whatever is is, just go after it because as Marie always says, “Stay on your game and keep going for your dreams because the world needs that special gift that only you have.”
