Becoming The Pig Whisper

By Lauren Schwab

I feel like this every moment in the pig barn, I go to the pigs and they come to me for care and attention. The barn has become my second home. Having spent my life in the presence of pigs, I have learned how they act, think and express their needs. This past week, I have walked out to the barnyard many times during the night to check on my little newborn piglets. Each life is important and I want them cared for and to get the milk they need. There were many little runts born. I helped them get milk by holding them up to their mom’s nipple. I want to do everything possible to help them. I am called to the animals. Although not every moment is perfect, the farm does has it’s tough moments and worries cross my mind because I care so much about every pig, I have learned to trust in the higher power of God who has allowed me to be born to this calling. I trust in miracles and I know as long as I am doing what I am called to do, that love, life and happiness will be a result. If I choose fear, that means I am relying on my own strength. When I rely on a power greater than me, I become fierce and life explodes. I love this message from Gabrielle Bernstein on having a spiritual relationship of your own understanding. She says when we rely on a higher power all the things you feel you are called to do become what you do because you do them in the presence of a service greater than you. I hope this helps to trust in your own life calling and do it, not only for yourself, but for others, for God’s creatures and the planet.
