If you could take a spin with someone you love who would it be? I remember the joy of riding around in Grandpa’s truck on the farm as a young girl. Since he has gone to heaven I love when I can imagine those times again. American Idol alumnus, Ethan Payne’s new single “Spin” takes my mind back there. Read on to learn the story behind the song and Ethan’s plans for the New Year…
The song tells a story about the relationship between a boy and his grandpa taking a red Camaro for a “Spin”. The grandfather lets the young boy drive even though he’s not old enough and the boy, after becoming a grown man, lets the grandpa drive even though he has become “too” old and wheelchair bound.
“The song was pitched to me over a year ago when I began traveling to Nashville writing and networking. I connected with the song the first time I heard it and knew right then that I wanted to record it,” says Ethan.
Sharing meaningful messages in his music is important to Ethan. His belief in “living life to the fullest” is shown in his honest storytelling-style of country music. “Take advantage of every moment in life and with loved ones because you never know when they won’t be there or when that moment will be lost forever,” says Ethan about the song.
He sings, “Suns going down faster than you think, so take it all in.” Since Ethan was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at 18-months-old, it hasn’t stopped him from following his dreams. “I think as a person with a life threatening illness, I tend to take life by the reins and try to make the most of every given moment and hence why I connected to every lyric,” shares Ethan.
Growing up in Georgia, Ethan began playing guitar at the age of 8 after receiving it as a Christmas gift from his grandmother. At the age of 13, Ethan was called on stage at a concert by his musical idol and mentor, Luke Bryan. The two began a casual friendship that night in 2016 which still lasts to this day. Since then, Ethan has been following his passion and encouraging others to do the same regardless of any perceived boundaries or obstacles. He currently serves as an ambassador for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and volunteers his time and story to help raise funds for other children with life-threatening illnesses to help have their wishes granted.
His New Year plans include graduating from high school, continuing to write and produce new music, and spending quality time with family and friends while staying as healthy as possible.
