Adam Warner Releases Tribute to “The Farmer”

By Lauren Schwab Eyre

I was born the daughter of a pig farmer. I will be honest, there have been more bad days than good, but I have learned to find the good in the bad by reminding myself why we farm. My dad wakes up in the middle of the night to start his day, he already has a couple hours in when I rise at 2:30 a.m. to wean pigs. This is our livelihood and it’s very hard work. We load around 1,200 piglets by 8 a.m. to sell to another farmer. Here is a glimpse of what a wean day looks like…

The reason we farm is to raise protein for people around the world. As a family farm, we impact our community and local economy by providing jobs and supporting other local farmers and businesses. I am motivated each day to wake up and bring my best self because animals are depending on me. While some days can take their toll mentally and physically, each pig matters to us and we are proud of what we do. God made me a farmer and this song by Adam Warner hits home every time I listen to it. The way Adam sings makes you feel the passion farmers have for what they do and I appreciate this song shining light on all the labor that goes into producing food, fuel, and fiber in America. Here is a look into how “The Farmer came to be…

Blue collars, burnin’ them wheels, turnin’ them fields into dollars.
Tough as nails, come hell or high water,
God made the sea, God made the dirt,
He knew the world needed people who would work a little harder,
So God made the farmer.

Written with John Caldwell, Mark Addison Chandler, Josh Gallagher, and Taylor Goyette – Adam pays tribute to the American Farmer. Having grown up on his family farm in Illinois, he understands the importance of farmers. “100% of us eat and only 2% of us (American farmers) grow it,” says Adam. After hearing Paul Harvey’s “God Made A Farmer” poem, it hit home for him. Adam first planned to make this song a ballad and after talking with co-writer, Mark Addison Chandler, they decided it should have a rock sound. This makes the listener feel how proud farmers should be for the work they do each day.

I’ll be cranking this song up when I’m driving to the farm in the dark, pushing through those long hours, and waving bye to my piglets. Thanks to Adam and all the writers who crafted this song to pay tribute to the American farmer.
