From the first line, her voice will send you chills. “Lucy resin up your bow and play your fiddle hard. ‘Cause hell’s broke loose in Georgia and the devil deals the cards. And if you win, you get this shiny fiddle made of gold. But if you lose, the devil gets your soul,” sings Camille Rae in Calamity Jane‘s rendition of “Devil Went Down To Georgia”.
As the music video opens, Camille Rae sets the stage with her powerful voice of what is to come for Lucy Cantley. She is leaving home to pursue her dream and finds herself in a fiddle battle with her own demons. The video shows a montage of Lucy endlessly practicing to be the best fiddler. She conquers stepping out on her own and proving she deserves a fiddle made of gold.
We will all find ourselves in challenging times in life. They can make us or break us, but with determination we can succeed. I love seeing Camille and Lucy be a positive role model to other women, our power can be deep in us and we just have to dig into our fear to release it. Fear of the unknown, failure or even fear or what will happen next when we succeed. Let your fear fuel you. Anytime you need motivation, watch this chilling music video and know you can do anything you set your mind to.
I can’t wait to see what Calamity Jane has for us next! Lucy says Calamity Jane is more than just a band. It is a “collaborative group project featuring various artists.” The girls believe together, they redefine genre and the components of a musical artist today. Like it’s namesake, Calamity Jane shows incredible promise to challenge the status quo, and perhaps make a mark in history.
